Ministry of Works and Housing

MWH leads the implementation of Component One (1) of the GARID Project which focuses on Climate Resilient Drainage and Flood Mitigation Measures. The Ministry has a Project Implementation Unit (PIU) that implements this component of the project.

Ministry of Sanitation and Water Resources

MSWR is responsible for the implementation of Component Two (2) of the GARID project which seeks to improve Solid Waste Management (SWM) Capacity in the Greater Accra Region. The Ministry has a well established PIU that leads the implementation of Component 2 activities across the region.

Ministry of Inner City and Zongo Development

MICZD is one of the patterner Ministries that implements the Component 3 of the project. This component focuses on participatory upgrading of targeted flood prone low-income communities. Like the other implementing agencies, MICZP also has a Project Implementing Unit (PIU) that runs the project in the Ministry.

Ministry of Health

The Contingent Emergency Response Component (CERC) of the Project is being implemented by Ministry of Health. To ensure effective implementation of this component, A project Implementation Unit was established under the Ministry to handle all CERC issues.

Ministry Local Government and Rural Development

The MLGRD’s main role on the GARID project is to promote coordination mechanisms among GARID beneficiary MMAs that are contiguous to one another. This role which falls under Component 3.3 of the GARID project will be performed through the formation of Inter-jurisdictional Coordination Management Committee (ICMC) for all the 17 MMAs. The Ministry has a Project Coordinating Unit that implements this sub-component of the project.

Hydrological Services Department

The HSD supports the GARID project in the design, construction, assessment and repair of drains under the Project. The department also works with Water Resources Commission (WRC), Ghana Meteorological Authority (GMet), National Disaster Management Organization (NADMO) in the improvement of Flood Early Warning Systems (FEWS) capacity under the GARID project. FEWS will give early warning to residents of Greater Accra Region living in flood-prone areas about an impending flood so they can relocate to safer ground ahead of the flood.

The WRC collaborates with Ghana Meteorological Authority (GMet), National Disaster Management Organization (NADMO) and Hydrological Services Department to improvement Flood Early Warning Systems (FEWS) capacity under the GARID project. National Disaster Management Organization (NADMO)

Metropolitan and Municipal Assemblies (MMAs)

All the 17 Beneficiary MMAs constitute the GARID Project Support Units. These MMAs oversee the Management and Operation of Drainage Infrastructure, and improvement of Solid Waste Management capacity in their respective Assemblies. Their activities fall under component 3.3 being implemented Ministry of Local Government and Rural Development (MLGRD).
