The Greater Accra Resilient and Integrated Development (GARID) Project has successfully concluded a series of stakeholder engagements ahead of the planned closure of the westbound corridor of the Dr. Busia Highway.

The final phase of the engagement process featured a high-level meeting with key institutions, including the Accra Metropolitan Assembly, the Ablekuma Central Municipal Assembly, and the Motor Traffic and Transport Department (MTTD) Kaneshie Command. The meeting focused on final preparations for the closure and strategies to ensure effective traffic management during the construction period.

Officers from the MTTD are expected to play a crucial role in directing traffic and maintaining order along affected routes once the closure takes effect.

Both the Accra Mayor, Hon. Michael Kpakpo Allotey, and the Municipal Chief Executive for Ablekuma Central, Hon. Frank Nkansah, have reiterated their unwavering support for  the GARID Project, pledging continuous collaboration throughout its implementation.

Speaking on behalf of the two Assemblies, the Accra Mayor acknowledged the temporary inconvenience the road closure may pose to residents and commuters but emphasized its necessity in tackling the area’s long-standing flooding challenges.

He assured that both Assemblies are fully committed to working closely with the GARID Project and relevant stakeholders to ensure effective traffic management and provide adequate support to the public during the period.

The GARID Project Coordinator, Dr. Kwadwo Ohene Sarfoh, also expressed satisfaction with the level of cooperation demonstrated by key stakeholders. He noted that the ongoing engagements have strengthened institutional coordination and reflected a shared commitment to delivering resilient infrastructure while prioritizing public safety and convenience.

The planned closure forms part of ongoing efforts to improve drainage infrastructure and address flooding challenges within the Kaneshie area and its surrounding communities.
