The Minister for Works, Housing and Water Resources, Hon. Kenneth Gilbert Adjei, has expressed satisfaction with the progress of ongoing drainage improvement works in Kaneshie during a monitoring visit to key project sites under the Greater Accra Resilient and Integrated Development (GARID) Project.
The visit covered two major interventions aimed at addressing persistent flooding challenges in the area. The first project involves the construction of an underground storm drainage system stretching from Accra Academy to Pamprom Junction. The second project runs from the Bank of Ghana Quarters through the Takoradi VIP Station in Kaneshie, extending along Ayikai Street at Abossey Okai, and linking to the South Kaneshie Drain before discharging into the Odaw River near the ICGC Christ Temple area.
Inspecting the works on site, the Minister commended the contractors for their efforts and urged them to sustain the pace of work to meet project timelines.
“I am satisfied with the pace and quality of work so far, and I encourage the contractors to maintain this momentum to ensure the timely completion of these critical interventions that will bring much-needed flood relief to residents of Kaneshie and surrounding communities,” he said.
The projects form part of broader efforts to improve stormwater management systems in flood-prone areas across Accra. Once completed, they are expected to significantly reduce recurring floods, protect lives and property, and enhance urban resilience within the Kaneshie enclave.
Contractors on both sites are actively progressing with construction, demonstrating a strong commitment to delivering infrastructure that meets required standards and timelines.
The GARID Project continues to play a key role in advancing sustainable infrastructure development, with a focus on building safer and more climate-resilient communities in the Greater Accra Metropolitan Area.
