The Greater Accra Resilient and Integrated Development (GARID) Project has handed over the Abloragyei dumpsite in the Ga East Municipal Assembly to Mariandago Company Limited to commence construction of a fence wall around the site. This is to help ward off encroachers ahead of the planned closure and aftercare maintenance of the dumpsite under the GARID Project.
Speaking at a short handing over ceremony at Abokobi, the Project Coordinator, Dr. Kwadwo Ohene Sarfoh, urged the contractor, Marindago Company Limited, to work within schedule and complete the walling of the site within the 3-month stipulated timeline. He said the Project will not tolerate any delay in the execution of the contract. “Our main intervention here is capping which will soon start. So, you must execute this assignment with all the urgency that is required to make way for the commencement of the capping activities”, said Dr. Sarfoh.
Before the handing over ceremony, the GARID Project team paid a courtesy call on the MCE for Ga East Municipal Assembly, Hon. Elizbeth Kaakie Mann, to introduce the contractor to the Assembly. The Honourable MCE expressed gratitude to Government for the decision to cap the Abloragei dumpsite under the GARID Project. She pledged her Assembly’s unflinching support for all GARID Project interventions in her Municipality. “We are grateful to Government for this important intervention in the Ga East Municipality. I assure you of my Assembly’s full commitment and support for the successful execution of this fencing work and all other interventions the GARID Project will be implementing in the Ga East Municipality,” said Honourable Kaakie Mann.
The Abloragyei dumpsite is one of the old dumpsites that contributes to the solid waste management menace along the Odaw River Basin. As part of measures to curb the amount of solid waste that is washed from the dumpsite into the Odaw drain, the GARID Project’s Implementing Unit at the Ministry of Sanitation and Water resources will decommission and reclaim the land for use by the Assembly and residents of the Ga East Municipality.
