7. Short description of the event:

The EME is an information exchange session organised the Ministry for Works, Housing and Water Resources (MWHWR) and the Ministry of Local Government, Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs (MLGCRA), jointly referred to as the Project Principals, to elicit market information from stakeholders and prospective bidders who possess market intelligence about the local conditions, market context, pricing regime, and engineering perspective for the construction of the listed infrastructure detailed below.

At commencement, the interventions, packaged in 3 clusters, will be presented to the audience with discussion sessions after each presentation. The feedback to be elicited from the audience would cover the approach to the works; engineering, cost and pricing contingencies that could potentially affect the proposed works; and unanticipated impacts.

  • The package of interventions foresees the realization of a lowered excavated floodplain area in direct communication with the Odaw river, with embankment works limited to the regularization of the existing western bank of the river and existing ground level. The proposed scheme foresees a pond that can be used for frequent rainfall events and is characterised by earthfill embankments, terrain excavation to reach a minimum elevation of 28 m asl inside the pond (existing ground level varies approximately between 31m and 33m asl).

  • The Ayidan landfill is a fully engineered landfill, designed to meet environmental standards and protect groundwater, air quality, and public health.

  • The Alajo drains have slopes ranging from 0.2% to 1.5%, except in a few cases where the slope approaches zero. The current drainage network is insufficient, as many existing drains are in poor condition or completely absent in some areas. There will be complete reinstatement of roads affected by construction.

  • The Abbosey Okai bridge structure to be constructed consists of a 5m single-span deck, made of COR-TEN steel beams and reinforced concrete slabs, supported by reinforced concrete abutments with pile foundations. It includes the elevation and reinstatement of the approach roads and surrounding areas affected by the bridge replacement.

  • The Nima-Paloma to Odawna is 1 1.4km in total and comprises concrete covered drains and 5m by 3.3m culverts.
